Service Life Prediction of Sealant Materials

Current Projects

  • Service Life Prediction Methodologies and Metrologies for Building Joint Sealants
  • Objectives:

Develop and implement a reliability-based service life prediction methodology for sealants to relate field and laboratory exposure results. Implementation will include:

    • Development and fabrication of a prototype constant-strain testing device
    • Development and fabrication of a computer controlled and monitored exposure chamber
    • Development of an efficient experimental design to relate field and laboratory exposure results
    • Perform preliminary field and laboratory experiments using pre-competitive sealants developed in cooperation with industry
    • Establishment of a database for the storage, retrieval, and analysis of results
